City driving is a different kind of challenge. It’s not about long stretches of highway or steady miles, it’s tight spaces, constant stops, and decisions happening quickly. For drivers used to open roads, urban environments demand a different level of awareness and control.

Over the past few months, we’ve had conversations with drivers who had questions about something they’ve been hearing more often in the industry “Driver Inc.” Given the level of uncertainty around it, we felt it was important to take a step back and explain what it means, and why it’s receiving increased attention across Canada’s trucking sector.

Every spring, changing temperatures and freeze-thaw cycles can weaken road structures across Atlantic Canada. As snow and ice melt, water seeps beneath the pavement and softens the gravel base underneath. During this period, roads can temporarily lose up to 50–70% of their normal strength, making them more susceptible to damage from heavy vehicle traffic.
